Answer:

there is some ambiguity in question

sold for 40%? does it mean at what he spent or at what he bought :-

case 1 :- consider he sold 40% at what he spent

therefore. ( 3500+1000)*0.6 gives the answer 2700

case 2 :- consider he sold 40% at what he bought

then 3500*0.6 gives the answer 2100

Given :

  • Sahil bought a chair for rupees 3500 and spent rupees 1000 on its repair . He sold it again at 40%

To find :

  • How much did sell the bicycle for ?

Solution :

 \sf{total \: cost \: price \: of \: bicycle = price \: paid \: to \: purchase \: it  + repair \: charges} \\  \\  \implies \sf{(3500 + 1000)}Rs \:  =rs \:  4500 \\  \\  \implies \sf{sp =  \frac{100 + gain}{100}  \times cp} \\  \\  \implies \sf{ \dfrac{100 + 40}{100}  \times 4500 \: Rs} \\  \\  \implies \sf{Rs\: \dfrac{140}{100} \times 4500 } \\  \\  \implies \sf{Rs \:6300} \\  \\  \therefore  \underline{\sf{Hence \: sahil \: sold \: the \: bicycle  \: for \: Rs \: 6300}}
