Answer:In Sahayadri Hills-A lesson in Humility is a a story by Sudha Murthy about her experience with the tribals in the hilly area of the sahayadri Hills. She had bought clothes and umbrellas for the children studying in the rural school there. However, the seniormost person of the tribe Thandappa refused to accept them.
Explanation:"In Sahayadri Hills-A lesson in Humility"the story begins with a visual treat describing Sayahadri hills a densely forested region in Karnataka. Through her description,"mild smell of exotic trees, shrubs and flowers, the chirping of different kinds of birds, the gentle whistle of the unpolluted breeze",Sudha Murthy kindles the readers' senses. The poet and writer in her is excited with the scenic beauty of the woods. The study is all about,Mrs.Murthy's contribution to the rural school students in Sahayadri Hills.
The writer asked the children standing around her, what they wanted.Few youngsters told her that they have heard of computers but they have not seen them except T.V, so they wanted to learn computers. They asked for books about computers that were written in kannada. Sudha Murthy promised them that she would look for books in Bangalore, and if she does not find them any.she would write a book herself. This made the children happy.
Thandappa is a tribal village elder, which highlights the problems faced by the children in his village. But when the author goes back to gift a few essentials to the children,Thandappa refuses to accept them unless the author accepts their gift first. The story underpins the importance of reciprocity, irrespective of caste, creed or stature.
At this point if time,Thandappa gave her a bottle of juice made from a red fruit. Suddha Murthy was hesitant to accept it as she had gone there to give what she could and not accept. Moreover, the locals themselves had hardly anything to eat and drink. When she refused politely, she was surprised that Thandappa also declined her gifts. He explained that as a matter of principle set upon them by there ancestors, they could only accept gifts from someone when he had something in return and it was accepted.
Undoubtedly,Sudha Murthy was impressed and humbled by the high principles followed by the old tribal man with no schooling.
