HEYA FRIEND,
HERE IS YOUR ANSWER,
Usually, the purposes of the chorus is to inform the audiences about certain things, which cannot be well predicted from the play, played on the stage and to lighten up the situation and amuse the audiences. In the play, "The Merchant of Venice" , Salanio and Salarino also, somehow, serves the same works. Traditionally, in all the plays of Greek, the chorus use to play their role but unspecically but in this play, they have been provided with different names and thus they serve as the two different characters. HENCE, they can be called as 'glorified chorus'.
