Salary of an officer increased 25% by what %new salary decrease to restore original salary

Suppose the salary was 100 ( for easy calculation).

25% increase means 100*1.25= 125

Now, his salary is 125 and we want to take it back to 100 meaning we dont want that 25 any more. So, what percentage is 25 of 125? :/

or we can phrase it as

x percentage of 125 equals 25

x% of 125= 25

percentage means per cent ie per 100.. so what ?

so, (x/100) * 125= 25

Solving for x=20 i.e. 20%  decrease is need to restore the original salary, although I dont know why you would do that, he might have a family to feed! psych! bye
