Given : Sales of rs. 30000 earned the salesman a commission of rs. 2600

His commission was 10% on cash sales and 5% on credit sales.

To Find  : How much was his cash sales?

Solution:

Let say has cash sale = rs  100X

Total Sales = Rs 30000

Hence  credit sales.  = 30000 - 100X  Rs

commission was 10% on cash sales = (10/100)100X  = 10X

commission was 5% on credit sales = (5/100)(30000 -100X)  = 1500 - 5X

Total commission = Rs 2600

10X + 1500 - 5X  = 2600

=> 5X = 1100

=> X = 220

100X  = 22000

cash sales = Rs 22000
