➡️Salicylic acid can be prepared from phenol by the following steps :-

Step 1 :- React phenol with NaOH to get sod.phenoxide ion (also called protection /masking step)

Step 2:- sod.phenoxide ion is reacted with dry ice ie.CO2

Step 3:- The product yielded in step 2 gets converted into salicylic acid in presence of Dil.HCl (called deprotection /demasking step)
