Let the present age of Salil be x and the present age of Sangram be y

Then, x=23+(1/2)y  ⇒x=23+(y/2)
                                ⇒x=(46+y)/2   ⇒2x=46+y
                                                        ⇒2x-y=46.....(i)

5 years ago,Salil's age=x-5
5 years ago,Sangram's age=y-5

Then,(x-5)+(y-5)=55
      ⇒x-5+y-5=55
      ⇒x+y-10=55    ⇒x+y=65......(ii)

Adding (i) and (ii),
 (2x-y)+(x+y)=46+65
2x-y+x+y=111
3x=111     ⇒ x=111/3=37   ∴ x=37

Putting the value of x in (ii),
37+y=65
⇒y=65-37=28
∴y=28

∴Present age of Salil=37 years
  Present age of Sangram=28 years
