Answer = 8

Solution:

Let Johns age be x.

Sally = 3x+8( 8 years on from now)

John = x+8

It says in 8 years time, Sally is twice as old as John.

Therefore:

3x+8 = 2(x+8)

3x+8=2x+16

Now substract 2 from both terms:

x+8=+16

Solve for x

Substract 8 from +16

x = 8

Johns age = 8

Sally's age =  24
