Correct Question

  • Sally is 54 years old and her mother is 80, how many years ago was Sally’s mother 3 times her age?

Given

  • Sally is 54 years old and her mother is 80,

To find

  • how many years ago was Sally’s mother 3 times her age?

Solution

  • Let us assume x years back , Sally's mom's age is 3 times of Sally's age. Hence

  • 3(54-x) = 80-x
  • 162-3x=80-x
  • 162-80 = 3x-x
  • 82=2x
  • x=41.

So , 41 years ago, Mothers age is 3 times of Sally's age.

When Sally's age was 13 (54-41), and her mom age was 39 (80-41).

Hope it helps dear

Answer:-

Let assume x years ago sally will be 1/3 of her mother age

Sally age was at that point is 54-x

Sally mother age is 80-x

then 80-x=3(54-x)

it means 3x-x=162–80

means 2x = 80

x= 41

Hence 41 years ago sally age is 13 years and her

mother age is 39 years.

Hope that helps..!!
