it is caused by rocks...

because the heavy rocks which r in higher altitudes like mountains and hills come down due to the deposition of glaciers or waterbodies.due to the chemicals in atmosphere salt forms in rocks. when they settle in water bodies which usually happens at coastal region, salt gets deposit in the water.....
