Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

Labenda buys a radio at a discount of 15% but, pays 10% VAT.

She pays Rs. 170 for VAT, then,.

Find :

(i) The marked price of the radio,

(ii) Amount she paid for the radio while buying,.

Solution :

Labenda buys a radio at a discount of 15% but, pays 10% VAT.

⇒ Discount = 15%

⇒ She paid = 100% - 15% = 85% of the total price,.

Let the total cost of radio be Rs. x,

Then,

⇒ She paid (without VAT) = 85x/100

⇒ She pays 10% VAT = 10% VAT on Discounted price,.

⇒ 10% of 85x/100 ⇒ 8.5x/100

⇒ She paid Rs. 170 as VAT

⇒⇒ \frac{8.5x}{100} = 170

⇒⇒x = 170 \times \frac{100}{8.5}= 2,000

∴ The Oridinal cost of the radio is Rs. 2,000.

The amount she paid = total cost - Discount + VAT

⇒ 2,000 - 15% of 2,000 + 170

⇒ 2,000 - 300 + 170 = Rs.1870
