Sam and Nora had an equal amount of money. After Sam spent 5/7 of his
money and Nora spent 7/8 of her money, Sam had $13.50 more than Nora left.

Answer:

Amount for Nora = N

Amount for Sam = S

[1] We know that Sam and Nora had the same amount: N = S

[2] We know Sam spent 5/7 of his money and Nora spent 7/8 of her money, and after, Sam had $13.50 more than Nora: 5/7S + 13.50 = 7/8N

Since we know N = S, I replaced N from the [2] with S. So, 13.50 = 7/8S - 5/7S

S = 84,

N = 84
