WEST                  EAST

            SOUTH

South  = 20 m

Left from south means East

East  = 10 m

Left from east means North

North = 10 m

Left from North means West

West = 20 m

South = 20 and North = 10  => South = 10 m

East = 10  and West = 20  => West = 10 m

South = 10  West = 10

Distance from original = √(10² + 10²) = 10√2 m

and direction is Southwest

Sam is in south west direction from original at distance of 10√2 m

• A = Starting Position .
• AD = 20m .
• DE = 10m .
• EF = 10m .
• FC = 20m .
• C = Final Position .
• CB = CF - BF => CF - DE = 20 - 10 = 10m .

then, In right angled ∆ABC , we have,

→ AC² = AB² + BC² (By pythagoras theorem.)

→ AC² = 10² + 10²

→ AC² = 100 + 100

→ AC² = 200

→ AC = √200

→ AC = 10√2 m. (Ans.)

Now,

• Point C is in South - West direction from Point A.

Hence, we can conclude that, Sam is 10√2 away from his original position and in South - West direction .
