Given : sam walks 20 meters (m) towards south.

He turns to his left and walks 10m, and

then, turns left again and walks another 10m.

Once again, turning left, he walks 20m more.

To Find : How far, and in which direction is Sam with respect to his original position?

Solution:

             NORTH

WEST                  EAST

            SOUTH

South  = 20 m

Left from south means East

East  = 10 m

Left from east means North

North = 10 m

Left from North means West

West = 20 m

South = 20 and North = 10  => South = 10 m

East = 10  and West = 20  => West = 10 m

South = 10  West = 10

Distance from original = √(10² + 10²) = 10√2 m

and direction is Southwest

Sam is in south west direction from original at distance of 10√2 m
