Time and motion study is a technique to measure efficiency. This technique is made up of the 'time-study' of Frederick Winslow Taylor and the 'motion-study' of Frank and Lillian Gilberth. Time-speed technique is a very important part of scientific management . Time-study developed the notion of 'standard time' while motion-study improved working methods. Later both these techniques were merged and 'time-speed study' was born.

At present, this technique is applicable to industrial organizations as well as service organizations (such as banks, schools, hospitals).
