Nitric acid reacts only with Magnesium and Magnese, it produces Hydrogen gas with pop sound when it comes in contact with burning candle near the test tube. But when nitric acid does not reacts with another metal, it produces water and nitrogen dioxide gas. It is a very powerful oxidizing agent. So, it oxidizes with another metal except magnesium and magnese to produce water from Hydrogen gas. Here, hydrogen gas oxidizes to form water.
