Let the number of marbles present in the back be "x".

Operation done: He takes out half of the marbles i.e. x/2 and put back 1 i.e. x/2 + 1

Therefore no of marbles present in the bag = [x/2 + 1].

Again Sameer does the same operation for 2nd time and no of marbles left in bag = (6+x)/4.

For the 3rd iteration no of marbles left in the bag = (14+x)/8.

For the final time i.e. 4th iteration, no of marbles left = (30+x)/16.

And acc to the question, (30+x)/16 = 3.

or, x = 48 - 30 = 18 marbles.

Therefore, 18 marbles were there originally.
