Sameer took two test tubes and labelled them A and B. In test tube A, he put a substance ‘X’ and added dilute HCl. In test tube B, he put substance ‘Y’ and added dilute HCl. Sameer observed the formation of a chloride in test tube B with evolution of a gas. No chemical reaction was observed in test tube A.
