Answer:

let the age of Mary=x

let the age of her daughter = y

x-7= 7(y-7)

x-7=7y-49

x+7y=49+7

x+7y=56----------1

x+3=3(y+3)

x+3=3y+9

x-3y=9-3

x-3y=6----------2

by elimination method

x+7y=56

x- 3y =  6

(-)  (+)    (-)

10y=50

y=50/10

y=5

Now substituting the value of eq.2

x-3y=6 (in place of y we have to write 5)

x-3(5)=6

x-15=6

x=6+15

x=21

the present  age of Mary=21 yrs.

the present age of her daughter=5 yrs.
