Sir

Subject: Concern over safety of aged persons.

Through the esteemed column of your newspaper ‘ The Times Express’, I read the  news item published in yesterday’s newspaper. I would like to express my views on  it. I was shocked reading this pathetic news and I feel sorry for the state of elderly  people in our society.

The safety and well being of elderly people in our society is deteriorating day by day.  There is no respect for them. Old age homes are mushrooming which define the  state of elderly people. Now a days old people are being discarded from their own  houses. Greed of money is forcing children to settle abroad and they are unable to  take care of their ailing parents. Children instead of providing emotional support to  their parents, prefer to provide them monthly pocket money, as if, money can buy  everything.

So in my opinion, schools must teach the children to respect their elders, particularly  their own parents. Our government should also impose severe penalty on those who  do such acts of throwing out elderly persons from their houses. I also request you to  publish articles in your newspaper to bring awareness in society about the worth of  elderly people in our lives.

Thank you

Yours faithfully

Subject -: About the elder citizen in the society

Dear sir/ma'am,

I am Taylor living in Kankhal area in Uttar Pradesh. Yesterday when I was heading towards my college I had noticed that my neighbour was manhandling his parents and throwing them out of the house. This had left me thinking about somethings lately and I thought to express my views to the newspaper.

Parents do their best to raise their children and give them the best of everything. But some people when they grow and have to return that love and care they had received from their parents, they just walk away from their responsibility. Some either leave their parents in old age house or throw them out of the house. This is really disturbing and thus I have some ways in which we can safeguard the elderly people in our society. We can have rules and laws stating that if an elderly person is dis-respected or is being treated badly should be given a heavy fine and be in prisoned. Since our schools are the source of education teachers can teach about this to the students and make them aware of this. We can also have programmes and organizations that provide support and raise awareness of taking care of elderly people in our society.

There are several more initiatives that can be taken if we think about it carefully. This is a vast topic to talk about and we can also encourage debates and speeches about this in our society for encouraging the people and inspiring them to take care of our elders. I am ending this letter here. I hope this would help the society think about it once.

Yours Sincerely,

Taylor
