Access to information services, data and independent media is increasingly
important to our daily lives and to our country’s economic, social and political
development. Whether through mobile phone, web, TV, radio or print,
ensuring that people have access to information is vital for our future and that
of our children.
We are therefore writing to seek a meeting with you to discuss the role of
information and media in the context of the post-2015 development agenda.
We congratulate the Government on progress made towards the Millennium
Development Goals and we support the creation of new, post-2015 goals that
build on the progress already made. We also realize that the decisions of the
Government and all UN member states on the post-2015 framework will have
considerable influence on global and national development priorities.
There are a large number of important areas under consideration in the post-
2015 development framework including poverty eradication, food security and
nutrition, health, education, gender equality, peace-building, energy,
sustainability, industrialization and infrastructure. Research by UNESCO, the
World Bank and others shows strong links between access to information and
free media to sustainability, economic growth and good governance.
We welcome the opportunity meet you to discuss the post-2015 agenda and
role of information and media in development, and hope to remain in contact
as negotiations at the UN progress.
Yours sincerely,
