Question :

Q- The wavelength of sound emitted by a source if 1.7×10-² m. Calculate frequency of the sound wave (f) , if it's velocity is 343.4 m/s.

 \\

Solution :

 \\

# GIVEN :-

  •  \sf \lambda \: (wavelength) = 1.7 \times  {10}^{ - 2}  \: m
  •  \sf \: v \:  (velocity) = 343.4 \:  \frac{m}{s}  \\

 \\

# TO FIND :-

  •  \sf \: frequency \: ( \nu)

 \\

# SOLUTION :-

We know that,

›› Velocity = frequency × wavelength

so,

›› frequency = \sf\dfrac{velocity}{wavelength}

 \mapsto \rm \:  \nu =  \frac{v}{ \lambda}  \\

 \mapsto \rm \:  \nu =  \frac{343.4}{1.7 \times  {10}^{ - 2} }  \\

 \mapsto \rm \:  \nu =  \frac{343.4 \times  {10}^{ 2} }{1.7}  \\

 \mapsto \rm \:  \nu = 202 \times  {10}^{2}  \: hertz \:

 \mapsto  \: \underline{ \boxed{ \sf{ \nu = 2.02 \times  {10}^{4}  \: hertz}}}

So,

The Frequency of the sound wave is 2.02×10 hertz.

 \\

_________

 \\

Note : The unit of frequency can be both "hertz" & "per second", they both are same.

 \\

# KNOW MORE :-

Velocity = It is the rate of change of position with respect to time. It's unit is m/s or km/h.

Wavelength = The distance between two successive crests or troughs of a wave. It's unit is m.

Frequency = Number of waves that passed a fixed point in a unit time. It's unit is per second or hertz .
