Samples of four metals A, B, C, and D were taken and added to the following 2

Solutions one by one. The results obtained have been tabulated as follows:

Metal FeSO4 (aq.) CuSO4 (aq.) ZnSO4 (aq.) AgNO3 (aq.)

A No reaction Displacement …… …..

B Displacement …… No reaction …...

C No reaction No reaction No reaction Displacement

D No reaction No reaction No reaction No reactionUse the table above to answer the following questions

i) Which is the most reactive metal

ii) Arrange the metals A, B, C, and D in the order of decreasing reactivity.

Answer:

(i) B is the most reactive metal as it has displaced the most reactive metal amongst the solutions i.e Fe of FeSO

4

.

(ii) If B is added to CuSO

4

solution than it will displace Cu because Fe is more reactive than Cu so the metal which can displace Fe can also displace Cu.

(iii) D < C < A < B.

(iv) Metal D can be used to make containers to store the solutions because it is the least reactive metal of all.
