Sana takes some water in a plastic bottle and keeps it on a weighing scale. She adds 10 g of sugar to it and closes the bottle. She does not mix the sugar and keeps the set- up undisturbed. She observes that the sugar slowly dissolves in the water. What is she likely to observe about the weight of the bottle throughout the process?

Answer:

The weight of the bottle will remain the same throughout the process.

Explanation:

Given,

Sana takes water in a bottle and put it on a weighing machine.

Let the weight of the bottle (without water) = x

weight of the water = y

then the weight of the bottle with the water will be = z = x + y

She adds 10 g of sugar to it.

Then the weight of the solution will be  = z + 10 g

This mass will remain the same throughout the process.

The thing which changes here is the volume of the solution. It will decrease with the time sugar dissolves in it.
