Sand when heated does not get charred but turns black why?

Sand when heated does not get charred but turn black because at high temperature the molecule shrinks & turned in to more dense element instead of charred out . that's property of sand . On same principle we make bricks . we always saw that when we heat the bricks they turned more strong instead of fall apart or charred .
