let son be x and father be y

x-3y=-6

5x-y=40

by elimination method

Explanation :-

The ratio of Sandeep and his father 10 year ago is 1:5

Therefore,

Let the age of Sandeep be x and Sandeep father be 5x respectively.

According to the given condition

Sandeep age after 6 years will be three seventh of his father's age.

x + 16 = ( 3/7 )(5x + 16)

7x + 112 = 15x + 48

8x = 64

x = 64/8

x = 8

Sandeep father's present age will be,

5x + 10

Substituting x = 8

5(8) + 10

40 + 10

= 50 years

Therefore, The age of Sandeep father's is 50.
