  • Roger can paint the same kitchen in 8 hours

✰✰|| To Find :

  • How long would it take for both working together to point the kitchen?

✰✰|| Solution :

work done by Sandra in 1 hours = 1/5

work done by Roger in 1 hours = 1/8

work done by both in 1 hours = 1/5 + 1/8

= 13/40

total time taken by both to finish the work = 40/13 hours = 13.07 hours

Therefore, total time taken by both to finish the work is 13.07 hours

Given data :

Sandra can paint a kitchen in 5 hours and Roger can paint the same kitchen in 8 hours

To find :

How long would it take for both working together to paint the kitchen

Step-by-step explanation :

In 5 hours, Sandra can paint the kitchen.

Then in 1 hour, she can paint 1/5 of the kitchen.

In 8 hours, Roger can paint the kitchen.

Then in 1 hour, he can paint 1/8 of the kitchen.

If they work together, then in 1 hour, they can paint (1/5 + 1/8) = (8 + 5)/40 = 13/40 of the kitchen.

So to paint the kitchen together, they would take

1/(13/40) hours

= 40/13 hours

= 3 1/13 hours

Final answer :

It would take 3 1/3 hours if both work together to paint the kitchen.
