Given : Sandy works in a high end clothing store.

She earns a base wage of $100 each week plus a commission of 15% of all her sales.

Last week her pay-cheque was $1525.

To Find : How much merchandise, in dollars, she is responsible for selling

Solution:

Base Wage   = $100

Let say sales she is responsible  for  =  M  $

commission of 15% of all her sales.

=> Commission = (15/100)M = 0.15M  $

Total Pay cheque = Base wages + commission

=  100 + 0.15M   $

100 + 0.15M  = 1525

=> 0.15M = 1425

=> M = 9500 $

she is responsible for selling 9500 $ merchandise
