Correct Question:

Sanjay completes one round of a square jogging track, in 5 min. Calculate his average speed if each side of the track is 150 m in length.

Required Answer:

Procedure to solve this:

  • Here we are given that Sanjay completes 1 round in 5 minutes.

  • Also, side of the track is 150 m.

  • We know that,  \sf { Average \: Speed = \dfrac{Total \: distance}{Total \: time } }

  • So, total distance will be equal to the full one round i.e as it is a square ground , so its perimeter will be equal to the total distance covered by Sanjay.

  • Then after finding the perimeter (total distance), we'll substitute all the values in the formula of the average. speed to find the average speed

Solution:

Given:

  • Sanjay completes one round of a square jogging track.

  • Total time taken ( t ) = 5 min = 300 sec

Converting to its standard form:

→ 1 min = 60sec

→ 5 min = ( 60 × 5 )sec

→ 5 min = 300 sec

  • Side of the track = 150m

To calculate :

  • Average speed ( v )

Calculation :

We know that,

  •  {\underline {\boxed {\Large {\bf \gray { v = \dfrac{s}{t} } }}}}

Where,

v = Average speed

s = total distance

t = total time

Let us calculate the total distance first:

◆ As it is a squared park, so total distance will be the perimeter of the square.

  • Perimeter = 4 × side ,or

→ Total distance = 4 × side

→ Total distance = 4 × 150

Total distance = 600 m

Now,

  • v = s/t

→ v = 600/300

→ v = 2m/s

Therefore, average speed of Sanjay is 2m/s.
