Let the breadth of the plot be x metre.

\implies Length = (x + 10) metre

Area of rectangle = length x breadth

\implies 200 = (x + 10) x x

\implies 200 = x² + 10x

That is x² + 10x = 200

\implies x² + 10x - 200 = 0

\therefore Now,

solving equation x² + 10x - 200 = 0, we will decide the dimensions of the plot.

Answer:

Length  = 20 metres and Breadth = 10 metres

Explanation:

Let the breadth of the plot be x metres.

So, length of the plot = (x+10) metres

According to the question, we have

x(x+10)=200

=>x^{2}+10x=200

=>x^{2}+10x-200=0

=>x^{2}+20x-10x-200=0

=>x(x+20)-10(x+20)=0

=>(x+20)(x-10)=0

So, x =10 metres [Since, length cannot be negative]

So, length of the plot = (10+10) metres

                                   = 20 metres

Hope it helps.......
