Hitopadesh was translated in German by Sir Edwin Arnold. He gave the title “The book of good counsels” to the translated work.

Sir Edwin Arnold was principal of Poona College and was a masters in English.

Hitopadesha is a very old book consisting of tales comprising of both animals and human characters. These tales are both entertaining and educational. The oldest work of Hitopadesh is estimated around the time of Panchatantra stories.
