Solution :

In the above question, it is given that :

Santos walks 2 kilometers south and then a certain number of kilometers east.

He ends 5 kilometers away from his starting position .

To find : The distance Santos walked in the east direction.

Let us assume that Santos had walked x km in the east.

Applying the Pythagoras theorem :

> ( 2)^2 + x^2 = 5^2

> 4 + x^2 = 25

> x^2 = 21

> x = | root 21 |

> x = 4.583 km approximately.

Thus, Santos had walked 4.9 km approximately in the east direction.

This is the required answer.

Answer:

Given :-

  • Santosh walks 2 km in South and then go in East
  • He ends 5 kilometers away from his starting position

To Find :-

Kilometres covered

Solution :-

By using Pythagoras Theorem

Let the distance be y

2² + y² = 5²

4 + y² = 25

y² = 25 - 4

y² = 21

y =  \sqrt{21}

y = 4.58 km

Now,

Nearest tenth => 4.6 km
