Step-by-step explanation:

First he goes in North 7 km then turns left and walks 10km

and again turns left and walks 7km.

This figure is forming a rectangle whose breadth is 7km

both breath are given and the length is 10km,but one length is only given so another length is also 10km.

So the length from the starting point is 10 km.

The answer is 10 km.

We will solve this problem using the coordinate system.

Let's assume that Santosh starts from origin ie. [0,0]

North direction is the positive y-axis, South is the negative y-axis, East is the positive x-axis and West is the negative x-axis.

  • As Santosh walks 7 km North, he moves 7 km towards the positive y-axis, hence his coordinates now are [0,0+7] = [0,7]
  • Now he turns left, therefore he is now facing west. He walks 10 km in the west direction, therefore he walks 10 km in the negative x-axis direction. Hence his coordinates now are [0-10,7] = [-10,7].
  • Now he again turns left, therefore he is now facing south. He walks 7 km in the South direction ie. the negative y-axis. Therefore his coordinates now are [-10,7-7] = [-10,0]
  • Hence the distance from his starting point is 10 units which is 10 km.

Santosh is at a distance of 10 km from his starting point.
