Solution :-

Let the present age of Sathis be x years.

Mahesh's age = (x - 2) years

Abhay's age = 2(x - 2) years

Aryan's age = 4(x - 2) years

According to the question,

=> x + x - 2 + 2(x - 2) + 4(x - 2) = 42

=> x + x - 2 + 2x - 4 + 4x - 8 = 42

=> 8x = 42 + 14

=> x = 56/8 = 7

Hence,

Sathis's age = x = 7 years

Mahesh's age= (x-2)

Abhay's age = 2(x-2)

Ryan's age = 4(x-2)

Sum of their ages = 42

Therefore,

=)x+x-2+2x-4+4x-8= 42

=) 8x- 14= 42

=) 8x= 42+14

=) 8x= 56
