Satish and Ashok start at the same time from two places 21 km apart . if they walk in the same direction Satish overtake Ashok in the 21 hours but if they walk in opposite directions,they meet in 3 hours. find the rate at which each of them walk

when they meet satish would have travelled 21 kms more than ashok.

now they meet in 21 hrs as given so the equation becomes,

21x-21y = 21 so x-y=1

when they walk in opposite directions, they together would cover a distance of 21 kms. now they meet in 3 hrs

so the equation becomes,

3x + 3y = 21 so x + y = 7

solving these equations simultaneously, we get x = 4, y=3.

so speed of satish be 4km/hr, ashok be 3km/hr
