Saturated hydrocarbon like alkanes have low reactivity as they don't have an extra bond which can break and form new bond. Carbon has completed its valence bonds where unsaturated hydrocarbon can break the double or triple bond to form new bond with hydrogen keeping the valency of carbon intact
