Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), under the aegis of the Union petroleum and natural gas ministry, will be holding national level painting, essay and quiz competitions to promote fuel conservation among students, 27 of whom could win a trip to Singapore.
State coordinator of oil companies Shyamal Debnath said the competition, titled Sakham, would offer 197 major prizes, besides gift vouchers and trophies. "The number of students winning a trip to Singapore and a laptop will, however, be limited to only 27," he said.
The best essays in each of 23 languages and two toppers each in painting and quiz competitions would be eligible for the top prizes, he added. Second slot holders would get a laptop and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while those who come third, would get a laptop and Rs 10,000 each.
"Since the objective is to create awareness about fuel conservation, the topics have been chosen accordingly," he said.
The topic, for both the essay and painting competitions is "Small steps of fuel conservation can make a big change". The quiz competition would cover a wider area incorporating agriculture, conservation and general studies.
"Online registrations will be open till September 15 at the PCRA portal, www.pcracompetitions.org," said state PCRA joint director Ashish Kumar.
Students of Classes VII to X were eligible to participate in the essay competition, and those of Classes VIII to X in the quiz. There would be two groups in the painting competition - a junior group for students of Classes V to VII and a senior group for those in Classes VIII to X.
"There will also be an individual quiz competition for students between 13 and 17 years, who do not enrol through schools," Kumar added.
