Focusing on the study even on Sunday morning makes the child feel the opposite about the school.

  • In the poem "The Schoolboy", the schoolboy is not interested in going to school as he feels caged there. He especially hates going to school in the summer morning.
  • This is because he feels that it takes away all his joy and happiness of him as the teacher keeps close contact with the students which makes him feel distressed.
  • The boy compares him with a caged bird as the caged bird does not enjoy itself by singing in a cage. The boy feels like a caged bird and feels unhappy as he is unable to enjoy school and feels that school has ruined his childhood.
  • Similarly, he compares school with the cage as he is prisoned in school by missing his youth from enjoying and being free similar to the caged bird winged down and forgetting to fly.

In this way, the child feels that school is not a place of joy and learning.
