Answer:

Elements are substances that are made from one type of atom. Mixture has no fixed composition by mass.. A mixture is the physical combination of two or more substances in which the identities are retained.

Compounds are substances made from atoms of different elements joined by chemical bonds. Compound has fixed composition by mass. molecule consisting of atoms of only one element is therefore not a compound.

hope it helps;)

Answer:

COMPOUND AND MIXTURE

COMPOUND

  • A compound is a substance that is formed when two or more elements chemically combined in a fixed proportion.
  • Some examples of compounds are- Water, carbon dioxide, table salt, sugar, etc.
  • For example, water is a compound formed by the chemical composition of two elements- Hydrogen and Oxygen in a fixed atomic ratio of 2:1. Every molecule of water consists of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen.
  • Every compound has a definite composition. This means that the amount of each element that consitute a compound is fixed.
  • The elements present in a compound cannot be separated by physical means. It can be separated only by chemical means.

MIXTURE

  • When two or more pure sunstances combine physically, such that the substances retain their individual properties is known as mixture.
  • The composition of mixture varies, as it is not a chemical combination.
  • They can be easily separated by physical methods such as sieving, winnowing, filtration, sedimentation and decatation, evaporation, crystalization, etc.
  • They are of two kinds: Homogeneous mixture and Heterogeneous mixture.
  • Homogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the components are distributed uniformly. Eg- Sugar and salt in water.
  • Heterogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the components are distributed non - uniformly. Eg- Oil in water, mixture of soil and iron, chalk powder in water, etc.
