The bouncing back of basketball can be explained by these three things:

  • Newton's third law of motion
  • Compressed air in the ball
  • Gravity

When we throw the basketball towards the ground (push) , the gravity also pulls it towards itself and increases its velocity. As a reaction, the ground also pushes the ball in the upward direction, and the pressure is exerted in compressed air and hence, it bounces a lot.
