Answer:
simple distillation give low pure compounds however fractional distillation gives pure compound.
Answer:
1,air is a mixture because
different gases mix together to from air and no new compound is formed
air has variable composition
air shows the properties of its constituent substances
the constituents can be seperated by physical methods
water is a compound because
H2 and O2 react to form water
the composition of water is fixed
the new substance,ie,water has entirely different properties from H2 and O2
the constituents of water can be seperated by chemical or electrochemical reactions only
2,Separation of components of air by the process called fractional distillation: In this process, air is liquefied under high pressure. Then it is boiled and depending upon the boiling points of fractions (gases), the components are separated.Instead of flow chart I am providing you diagrammatical representation of process-and that was above all the answers.
3,Some common differences are
Simple DistillationFractional DistillationIt is the method used to separate substances in mixtures with significantly different boiling points. It is used for mixtures containing chemicals with boiling points close to each other. It only have one distillation (vaporization-condensation) cycle in the whole process. It will have at least two cycles. It will not need any special equipment. It uses additional equipment called the ‘fractionating column’,It is often used to separate the liquid substance from the solid substance. It is not used in such mixtures rather used in liquids.
Examples:
It is used for the purification of water as well as separating acetone and water.
It is used in several industries like oil refineries and chemical plants mainly for purification and separation of many organic compounds.
4,Centrifugation is the technique used to separate cream from milk. Milk is a colloid and colloidal particles are not big enough that a filter paper can prevent the particles from passing through it. Hence cream cannot be separated from milk using filter paper.
(ii) The principle is that the when the milk is spun rapidly, the denser particles stay at the bottom and lighter particles stay at the top. Centrifugation is used in diagnostic labs for blood and urine tests as well as in washing machines to squeeze out water from wet clothes.
