Harvest Festival
Autumn 2018
Targeted groups across school:
This project was targeted at all classes and departments across the school.
Sessions:
Departments across the school each delivered an assembly to celebrate the harvest festival.
Some classes studied the harvest festival as part of their humanities sessions.
A letter was sent home to parents asking for donations.
Class 7 pupils delivered the items collected to a foodbank head office in Beeston which
serves many local foodbanks in the area.
Key learning objectives/ subject areas:
The objective of this project was to study and celebrate the harvest festival as a part of
religious education whilst teaching the pupils the importance of giving to the less fortunate.
Outcomes of this project:
This was a whole school project that supported the teaching and learning of the harvest
festival.
It helped pupils to understand the importance of giving.
The school made a positive contribution to the local community.
Pupils enjoyed the visit to the foodbank.
Examples of activities:
The project has enabled pupils to develop their understanding of religious celebrations, in
particular Christianity.
The pupils also learnt about the changes in seasons and weather as well as familiarising
themselves with different foods.
The project also allowed parents to discuss this with their children at home; some pupils who
came to bring their donated items to class discussed with myself as RE lead what they had
donated.
An assembly was delivered to middle school key stage 2 and 3 pupils; pupils enjoyed singing
songs and all of the items collected were on display for them to see.
Parental / Carer involvement:
Outcomes were shared with parents via the school website and home school diaries.
