Most of the ancient monuments have been built as Earthquake-resistant structures i.e, structures designed to withstand earthquakes. Although no structure is completely resistant to a strong earthquake, the damage can be minimised by proper construction.

Many ancient architects had to build their landmark structures to last for a long time. They achieved this often by making the structures excessively strong and stiff.

Precast concrete is designed and installed as the foundation which is known to give good durability than the just concrete framework.

In Japan, wooden houses are built that are reinforced to enhance its seismic resistance.

In India, the Taj Mahal and the Qutub Minar have been assured to be the safest monuments without any threat of crashing down even after an earthquake. This is because the Mughal engineers were well aware of the technology for construction of huge and long-lasting monuments with a cement foundation and rendered solid as rock.
