Answer:

The scientific value of biodiversity is relevant because our self-interest in biological resources supports economic and social benefits, such as wood, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and ecosystems services.

Answer:

The individual components of biodiversity (genes, species, ecosystems) provide society with numerous products and services.

Genes, species, and ecosystems that directly, indirectly, or potentially benefit humankind are often referred to as "biological resources." An example we use directly is the genes that plant breeders use to develop new plant varieties. Types used for various foods, pharmaceuticals and industrial products. An ecosystem that provides services such as water purification and flood control.

The components of biodiversity are interrelated. For example, genetic diversity provides the basis for continuous adaptation to changing conditions, and sustained plant productivity is the diversity  of soil invertebrates and microorganisms that maintain plant species diversity and soil fertility. It depends on gender.

Similarly, changes in the composition and abundance of the species that make up an ecosystem can change the services available from the system.
