Given; scooter charges consist of fixed charges and remain depending upon the distance travelled in kilometres. if a person travels 10 km, he pays rupee 28 and for travelling 16 km, he pays rupee 43

To Find; formulate simultaneous equations and hence find the fixed charges and the rate per km.

Solution; Let the fixed charges for the first km=x

The rate for subsequent km=y

According to question

x+9y=28

x+15y=43

Solving these two we get y=2.5 and x=5.5

Hence the fixed charge is 5.5 and the rate for subsequent km is 2.5
