Let the passing marks be 'P' and total marks be 'X'

30% marks, failed by 15 marks===  30% of X = P - 15 .....(i)

40% marks, 35 marks more than pass mark== 40% of X = P + 35 .....(ii)

(ii) - (i)

40% of X - 30% of X = P+35 - P+15

10% of X = 50

1% of X = 5

1/100 * X = 5

X = 500 == Maximum (Total) Marks

(i)== 30/100 * 500 = 150

Passing Marks = 150+15 = 165

Pass % = Passing Marks/Total Marks * 100

          = 165/500 * 100 = 165/5 = 33%

Answer = 33%
