The play The Dear Departed has tragically become commonplace in the world today. The scene of the play is in a small sitting room. Mrs Slater is in mourning and getting ready to receive guests. The guests who had never visited Mrs Slater earlier are coming to discuss grandfathers affairs after hearing of his death. The guests seem to revel in only taking grandfathers belongings and accuse Mrs Slater of theft.
This knowledge helps other guests to realize the nature of people and Mr Abel Merryweather decides to go to a lawyer and change his will.
