She was born in Mumbai, studied at the University of Mumbai (Bachelor and Master of Commerce), traveled extensively in India and has experienced both the uber-developed cities and the extremely backward villages of her country. She has consulted for companies like Ernst & Young and currently runs development-consulting projects for several Indian Parliamentarians to help them solve some of the key challenges faced by those living at the Base of the Pyramid. And in collaboration with Harvard’s South Asia Institute, she’s writing a new script that empowers women in India.

The world has witnessed enormous progress I hear; yet I see women being viewed from the same lens world over — as a nurturer, caregiver and homemaker. What do you think is one of the most important things in the world that needs to be fixed?

One of the most important things in the world that needs to be fixed is gender inequality in the workplace. In India “workplace” is not restricted to corporate jobs but a gamut of other professions especially governance. “Guaranteeing equal opportunities for women and men is not just the right thing to do. It’s smart economics,” said UN Women’s Executive Director, Michelle Bachelet. I would go a step ahead and say that it is not just smart economics but also a critical requirement for societal progress.
