Dissatisfied Indian rulers who wanted freedom from British rule and rebellion by Indian sepoys of the British army.
Achievements –
Under the leadership of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the rebels managed to capture Awadh, Jhansi, Kanpur, Delhi and Oudh provinces.
This shook the foundation of East India Company like a storm.
Leaders –
Nana Sahib, Kunwar Singh, Tatya Tope, Bakht Khan, Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi etc.
Result –
The revolt of 1857 was brutally crushed by the British empire. They recaptured all the lost regions and established the rule of Queen Victoria on Indian people.

- The use of pig and cow fats in the cartilages which are supposed to be taken in the mouth by the Indian soldiers strongly ignited the outbreak of the revolt of 1857.
- The very first reaction came from Orissa when Mangal Pandey shot a British official followed by rebellion against the same in the city of Meerut.
- The second incident widely spread throughout the country starting from Meerut to Delhi and UP where a group of rebellious people engaged in the killing of many officials.
- And their families from the city and headed towards Delhi where they made Bahadur as their leader. But due to lack of leadership and synchronizations, the revolt could not hold any fruitful bearing.
