Reasons:

  • Sea water is composed mostly of salt. (Nacl) Due to presence of impurity of impurities and non volatile solids Boiling point increases and melting point decreases.
  • The number of water molecules free to become freeze decreases due to  the presence of impurities.
  • The freezing point depends upon the attraction between the molecules of the liquid.
  • Boiling point depends upon the vapor pressure of the liquid.
  • Salt absorbs heat greatly.

Hence, sea water freezes at lower temperature than distilled water but boils at higher temperature.
